REMEMBER, YOU ARE ALWAYS FREE TO WRITE ABOUT A TOPIC OF YOUR OWN CHOOSING.

How to Search This Site

One way--the least efficient way--to search this blog is to scroll down and skim posts until you reach the bottom of the page, then click the "Older Posts" button and continue page by page until you might accidentally find what you're looking for. There are easier methods, depending on your reason for searching:
  • Check the "Labels" in the sidebar. Click on one of the words in that box, and you'll get a list of every post that has had that label applied to it. "Obituary," for example, brings up the two times we were assigned to write about our own demise.
  • If you click on your name in "Labels," you'll get a list of all the writing topics you have assigned. But don't rely on labels too much. Sometimes the assignments don't lend themselves well to labeling.
  • Click on someone else's name in "Labels" to see a list of their suggested topics. This can help if you remember who assigned a topic but can't recall the exact nature of it.
  • This is my favorite search feature: Use the keyword search box (little white box with image of magnifying glass) in the upper left corner, just above the title. Type a word in that box, click on the magnifying glass, and the result will be a list of every post that contains that word. That exact word, not just a close one; you may need to try a few variations.
  • If you know when you wrote a certain post--but not the assignment that inspired it--enter the month in the sidebar. Once you see a list of assignments for a particular month, it won't take but a minute to pinpoint the date and topic you're seeking.
  • Another way to search by date is by looking at the "Blog Archive" box in the sidebar. This won't be too helpful in the beginning, since all of our previous posts have been dumped into May, but if new assignments are added in a timely manner, the archive may eventually become a useful tool.
